Dear Matt,
- thanks for your time. To the most players, you're pretty well known. But you may like to introduce to our new players visiting our blog.
Matt: Thanks for having me.
- What's your job at Bohemia Interactive / DayZ team ?
Matt: I'm the Production Assistant on DayZ, so that means I deal with making sure everyone has everything they need to identifying potential problems we will have in the future and proposing solutions.
- What happened that you did join the dayz team and became Rocket's operation manager ?
Matt: I've known Rocket for about six years through an online gaming clan called usecforce, it's website is www.usecforce.com. Everytime he created a mod he would ask for us to give him feedback and sometimes help with other aspects of the mod. With DayZ as it got bigger and bigger I helped him more and more, like with helping set up servers and dealing with trying to organise all of our volunteers.
- How long are you with the guys ?
Matt: I've been working with Bohemia Interactive for about three months now.
- If you look in the near future, like 5 years from now, where do you see yourself when thinking about your job?
Matt: I've been thinking about it and I have absolutely no idea. I really enjoy production, the varied nature of the work and being able to be strategic in my work is really enjoyable in my opinion.
Long term I want to be involved in some more cool games, that reinvigorate gamers and really do push the boundaries in videogaming.
- What feature, that will be included in the DayZ Stand-Alone, are you most excited about?
Matt: We haven't announced a list of features for DayZ standalone, but the main feature that Dean has discussed that I am looking forward to is clothing.
So normally having different clothing is just for looks in games or maybe sometimes it might mitigate some damage. Dean wants to make it so that it affects the temperature of your player ingame.
Things like that, making the game more plausible and forcing players to make more decisions about their character, makes the game more personal and overall better.
- Is it possible to mod the Dayz Standalone version ? People like new maps an stuff like this..
Matt: Intially it is unlikely we will support modding, which I accept is slightly ironic considering we are a mod. However for us the choice is either to crack down on hackers or to support modding and stopping hackers is quite clearly a priority.
- Do you plan to release Addons for the Standalone version, like new maps an features ?
Matt: There will be regular updates to the standalone version much like minecraft, so there will be features released after the alpha release.
- It´s possible to host Private Servers for the Stand Alone version ?
Matt: It should be possible however we haven't made a final decision on how server hosting will work in DayZ standalone.
- What are the features against hackers? Battleeye ... sucks
Matt: Well Battleeye is mostly after the fact catching hackers, it's very difficult to guess what they are going to do. Considering Arma 2 went from maybe 1,000 concurrent players to up to 90,000. I think Battle eye did their best against hackers.
In standalone, we will be making it much more difficult to "hack" through several means, such as reducing a players ability to edit files and such.
Thank you for your time matt, and good luck with DayZ!
